CLA Reference/Adult Services & OCLC Best Practices in Virtual Reference Webinar - June 14th (MLSC)
The newly formed Reference and Adult Services Section of CLA will be holding a short meeting after the 'Best Practices in Virtual Reference" webinar to discuss plans for the section's fall program. The section is still looking for new members so anyone interested would be encouraged to stay. The Reference and Adult Services Section is a committee of Connecticut librarians that meet to plan for CLA fall programs and for programs that can be presented at the annual conference. If you are a librarian or a student studying to be a librarian and are interested in reference and adult services in public, academic or special libraries, the section would love your involvement and your new ideas. If you would like more information please contact Paula Cook Interim Associate Director of the Library at Manchester Community College, 860-512-2877.

OCLC:Best Practices in Virtual Reference: What the @#$? Dealing with Rude Patrons Online
Not all virtual reference exchanges are friendly chats, despite our best efforts. Hear and share some effective ways to deal with rude users without losing your cool.
Tech Tools Update - June 19th (WLSC) or July 12th (MLSC)
Need a chance to catch up with the ever-changing stream of new (and not so news) tech tools? There's always something new that sounds interesting, fun and maybe even useful! But sometimes it's hard to find time to test them out and figure out what to do with them.
During this workshop we'll look at social media services that can help you connect with your community, as well as productivity tools that can help you during your workday. You'll have a chance to explore lots of tools (new and old!) and share ideas with your colleagues. You'll come away with some new tips and tricks in your tool-kit and and decide which tools are right for you, your library, your community. Topics covered will include: Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and other electronic elements (QR codes, cloud computing, etc.) No question is too silly, bring them all!!

Introduction to WordPress for Websites - June 20th (MLSC)
Looking for a simple way to have an attractive and useful web presence? One that is easy to maintain as well? Sound too good to be true? Come learn how it can be done with Wordpress. Wordpress is a content management system that lets you create and maintain a website without learning complex & expensive web development software. At the end of the workshop you'll be able to update your Wordpress website from any computer that has an internet connection.

Not sure if you have Wordpress available to you? Check with your website hosting service, they'll be able to help you. There are also services that let you set up a Wordpress site for free. During this workshop we'll provide you with a temporary Wordpress website that you can use as a model for later development.

In this session we'll cover
How Wordpress helps you organize your information
Setting up an easy to update page for news.
Changing the look of your site through the use of themes.
Options for letting people leave comments on your site.
Incorporating content from blogs, flickr and other services.
Adding media content on your pages.
And much more!

Connecting with & Serving your Digital Community - June 21st (Bristol PL)
Your library has a web site and most likely a Facebook page and maybe you're using Twitter to connect with your community as well. But what else could you be doing with these tools, and others, to better connect with and meet the needs of your online community? Are there new tools that you might want to test out? Are you tracking the use of the services you're already using? Are there other ways to make your library's services and resources more visible beyond the library website by collaborating with community partners? What tools can you use to easily share information with your community? During this workshop we'll look at all these topics and more. Come prepared to share your own experiences, ask questions, explore and have fun!
