Preconference Workshops at the AASL 16th National Conference 
The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is currently  seeking half- 
or full-day preconference proposals for the AASL 16th National Conference in 
Hartford, CT. The deadline for preconference proposals is Friday, June 15, 2012.
Note: The call for proposals for Concurrent Sessions at the AASL 16th National 
Conference will run from Monday, July 2, 2012–Friday, November 2, 2012.
AASL 16th National Conference Overview
Theme: Rising to the Challenge
Estimated Attendance: 3,000
Audience: K-12 Librarians, Program Officers, District Supervisors, Coordinators, 
Educators, Directors
Location: Hartford, CT
Dates: November 14-17, 2013
Proposal Guidelines
Proposals must include the following:
	* Complete contact information for all speakers. Please note that  the person 
submitting a group proposal will be considered the Program  Chair and the main 
contact for the presentation.
	* Presentation title
	* Specify program length – Preconferences are either half- or full-day.
	* Program outline - the outline should be approximately 300 words or  less and 
should outline the main points of the program, its relevance to  attendees, and 
how you would incorporate at least one active learning  exercise in your 
session.
	* Program description – please include up to 3 learning objectives.
	* Support of the AASL Strategic Plan, the AASL Standards for the 21st-Century 
Learner and/or Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Programs. 
Please explain how your program would support these plans.
Selection Criteria
Submissions will be evaluated for completeness, clarity, originality  and 
timeliness. Special attention will be given to submissions that  incorporate one 
or more of these characteristics:
	* Demonstrates innovative thinking and/or new perspectives
	* Presents strategies for effectively implementing new ideas and technology
	* Incorporates at least one active hands-on learning exercise
	* Design includes activities that will incorporate various learning styles
	* Demonstrates how learning outcomes would be achieved
	* Supports the AASL strategic plan, the AASL Standards for the 21st-Century 
Learner and the Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Programs.
Any preconference proposals submitted after Friday, June 15,  2012 will not be 
considered. The call for proposals for Concurrent  Sessions at the AASL 16th 
National Conference will run from Monday, July  2, 2012–Friday, November 2, 
2012.
How to submit a proposal
Go to http://www.ala.org/aasl/conferencesandevents/rfp to access the Proposal 
Submission Form. Complete submissions will only be accepted through this online 
form.  Faxed, emailed, or mailed submissions will not be accepted.
