Hi Ariel,
In addition to books, you may like to look at the inquiry lessons that were put together on CT Humanities’ Teachit site http://teachitct.org/ . There are lessons for grades 3, 5,8, and high school that follow the social studies frameworks. The digitized historic Connecticut newspapers from the State Library as well as resources from other CT historical societies, museums, etc. are used in these plans.
Good luck.
Gail

Subject: [CASL-L] Best books relating to Connecticut history

Hi everyone,

I work at two elementary schools in West Haven and was recently informed that some of the classes will be working on projects relating to Connecticut history next year. To ensure that I have the resources they will need, I'm hoping that you all might suggest some good books (fiction and nonfiction) that would be appealing to 3rd and 4th grade students with a wide variety of reading abilities. For example, I would love to identify historical fiction that takes place in Connecticut as well as nonfiction books about the history of Connecticut and biographies about famous people from Connecticut. Really, anything and everything relating to Connecticut would be wonderful.

Thank you all in advance!
Ariel
