I just got this e-mail below about a free virtual workshop this Saturday for teen writers; not much notice, but this might be of interest to pass along to students if you work in middle or high schools.

p.s. look forward to seeing some of you this Saturday at nErD Camp at Sedgwick!

   It’s fun and it’s FREE

| Do you know the name of Hades’ dog, the Hound of Hell? Have you watched the new Percy Jackson & the Olympians series on Disney+ or the ancient Disney cartoon, Hercules? Can you name all the gods of Olympus or other famous characters from Greek mythology? You can discuss those questions and more when you join CHANTEL ACEVEDO – whose Muse Squad duology tells the tale of a Cuban American girl who discovers she’s one of the nine Muses of Greek mythology – for this weekend’s edition of Speak Up! This FREE virtual workshop series for students ages 13-19 in grades 6-12 is led by established poets, graphic novelists, and fiction writers, and all teen writers are welcome, no experience necessary. 👏🏾   |

| Hailed as “a master storyteller” by Kirkus, Chantel Acevedo is the author of the novels Love and Ghost Letters, A Falling Star, The Distant Marvels – which was a finalist for the 2016 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction – and The Living Infinite, lauded by Booklist as a “vivid and enthralling tale of love and redemption.” Muse Squad: The Cassandra Curse and Muse Squad: The Mystery of the Tenth, Acevedo’s middle-grade duology, was described by School Library Journal as “riveting and suspenseful.” Her latest middle-grade novel, The Curse on Spectacle Key is a lightly spooky story set in the Florida Keys and a 2023-2024 SSYRA Award nominee. Acevedo is a professor of English at the University of Miami, where she directs the MFA program. |
