To all

The district has recently posted two positions. One is an elementary position that is based primarily at a Grades 1-5 school with one day at our PreK-K school. The latter will close in June 2012 and Kindergarten classes will be consolidated with the four elementary schools. We would expect, therefore, that this position will be a “traveling” one for just one more year. Our elementary libraries do have a fixed schedule but there are blocks of time to flexibly schedule other activities. Focus is on developing readers and with upper grades, to develop a good base of information skills which students can take with them to middle school. One of our recent elementary initiatives has been two major collaborative projects in Social Studies with all of our 4th and 5th graders. They are proving to be a great success and have done a lot to transform the nature of the library programs as well.

The other position is at Sage Park Middle School. At this school, we have two library media specialists (school enrollment is about 800) who are also responsible for instructional technology support. There are also two full-time paraprofessionals. It is a completely flexible-scheduled program with intensive emphasis on integration of information and technology literacy. It is a busy and really exciting program. Some of you may know the very talented Katrina Palazzolo who was one of the two library media specialists at Sage. She has recently been appointed as the district Technology Teacher Leader. This is the position that will be taking over many of my responsibilities since, yes, I have officially retired after more than 35 years in the Windsor schools! Katrina will also be providing support to the library media programs.

You can go to the district web site at www.windsorct.org and click on Employment to see the (online) application process. I would suggest applying as soon as possible. Please pass on the word to others. You can also give me a call if you have any questions. I am actually working through the summer here in Windsor.
