I heard the most amusing story about support staff.  Two of my colleagues recently completed the LMS ARC program.  During the program's brief discussion of the "nuts and bolts", where they were finally introduced to a MARC record and other aspects of librarianship, students tried their hands at covering books.  I am glad they had that hands-on opportunity, but the program leaders said not to worry because support staff would always do that kind of stuff.  What?  My colleagues were amused, as they know what life is like in most of the real world.

Sara, best of luck.  Keep asking.  Squeeky wheel.  A unfavorable NEASC report can go a long way toward justifying support staff.  I have seen it happen.

Subject: [CASL-L] support staff

Hello all!
If you are a high school LMS in DRG 'G', may I please solicit your help?  I am curious about your current staffing situation.  We have received yet more cuts to support staff.  It's just me (3rd year LMS--brand, spanking new to HS) and a .5 A/V CIA (not yet hired) in my building.

Between this data, a NEASC visit in 18 months, and the visibility of the School Profile data, I am fantasizing that I can justify some help.  Or perhaps I will learn that I am really lucky with what I have!  :)

If I am correct, 'DRG G' includes: Bloomfield, Bristol, East Haven, Groton, Hamden, Killingly, Manchester, Middletown, Naugatuck, Plainfield, Putnam, Stratford, Torrington, Vernon, Winchester, Norwich Free Academy, and Gilbert School.  Please complete the Google Doc Form: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDh0MkR6WFhnNmY5WmlCMkNFVmlac1E6MQ#gid=0  I'll be happy to share results--maybe they will help you, too!

If you are not in DRG 'G' and have any productive suggestions, or general optimism to share, feel free to get in touch.  To my dear friends and acquaintances--I'm okay!  It could always be worse!

Thank you for your support.  See you all at CASL/CECA!
Sara
