San Francisco Friends School seeks a trained and experienced full-time coordinator for our Middle School Learning Commons. We seek a teacher librarian or technology/media specialist who is compelled by the school's Quaker mission and has experience working with faculty and students in 5th through 8th grades. Working with the Academic Dean, the Lower School Librarian, and the Educational Technology Director, the Learning Commons Coordinator will help plan the yet-to-be-built Middle School Learning Commons (~ 2,000 square feet) and will develop and deliver the new Learning Commons educational program.

The Learning Commons Coordinator's duties will include:

  • Establishing and maintaining a welcoming and well-used space that supports the SFFS learning community – students, teachers, and parents
  • Collaborating with teachers to support the effective integration of information and communication skills and technologies to enhance student learning
  • Contributing to the development of a K-8 scope and sequence in media literacy and information technology
  • Teaching students, staff and community how to access, evaluate, use, share, and create information from a variety of sources
  • Modeling and promoting literacy and the enjoyment of reading in all media formats
  • Developing the collection of print materials to support reading for pleasure as well as the school's educational curriculum
  • Selecting and delivering new media in support of purposeful technology usage in teaching and learning
  • Working as a full member of the middle school teaching team, including serving as a student advisor and other duties as needed

The ideal Learning Commons Coordinator candidate will demonstrate:

  • Three+ years of experience working in a school environment
  • Vision about and engagement in the evolving role of media and technology in education and society
  • An innovative, start-up spirit
  • A collaborative, flexible, approachable temperament
  • A teacher's disposition and love of young people

We hope to find a future-oriented educator who will help us envision and create a Learning Commons that is the hub of student life in the middle school – a place where students and teachers gather daily.
