Do you know what the top selling mobile education apps are?
iLearn II, a new report from the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop, looks at 196 recent top-selling iPad and iPhone apps from the education category. Among its findings: over 80% target kids from preschool to middle school, with 60% of the top 25 targeting toddler and preschool children. As this suggests, "early learning" apps are the most popular, followed by math--but literacy apps are "surprisingly sparse." The average price of these apps has risen by about $1 from a similar study in 2009, but the majority are still priced moderately at $0.99 or $1.99.
Stay tuned, Mobile Learning Explorations members - later this year, we will build a database together of mobile learning resources we use and like. Start thinking now of the apps you'll want to contribute to our collaborative effort to share with each other on mobile learning resources that you know work!
(Note that this report is also being saved in our community's Document Library for easy access by members at any time. Please add useful mobile learning resources you know of to the library as well!)
