Subject: Looking for Lead Presenting States in New National Civil War Project
Hi All,
Some of you may have heard already that there is a new national videoconference project taking place on May 16th geared for students studying US History until 1865. This project was implemented at a statewide level by the legendary Tommy Bearden (cc'ed above) from Region 14 in Abilene Texas and is modeled on his very successful Day of the Dead event. Now Tommy and I have teamed up and are launching this project at a national level and we could really use your help in reaching out to potentially interested presenting schools in your regions.
This will be a *very unique* opportunity for middle school students to be involved in a national Civil War social studies/history videoconference project as classes across the country will engage with each other and learn more in a hands on way about the Civil War. The event will take place on May 16th from 9:30 am - 3:15 pm EST and will bring together 7 states in the north and 7 states in the south for student presentations on "The Civil War: Our State's Contributions to the War and the Effects on Our State". Each site will get 12 minutes to give their presentation to a global interactive audience. Presenting sites will be primarily middle school students although grades 5-12 are invited to watch the days' events. There will also be four Civil War related presentations from museums throughout the program. This event will be opened for general registration in a few weeks and will also be live webstreamed so you'll be seeing more information from us soon about how to encourage schools to get involved that way as well.
We are currently still seeking presentations from both Northern and Southern states. We already have TX, KS, PA, NJ, KY,. If you have a possible presenting school that you know has good connectivity and would make an excellent presenting site (as we can only take 1 school for each state), please have interested Northern States contact Jennifer Oxenford at jmacdoug@isc.upenn.edu or skype at jmacdoug and interested Southern States, contact Tommy Bearden at bearden@esc14.net or by video at 12.68.216.113
Thanks, everyone!! We appreciate your help and hope you have some schools that might want to get involved!
Best,
Jennifer
