How timely!  CASL has planned a workshop on eBooks on Saturday, May 12 from 9:30-1:00 @ the Stratford Library.  The panel discussion will have representatives from Barnes & Noble, Follett, Scholastic, Marshall Cavendish as well as CT LMSs and public librarians who have eBooks in their collections.  The fee is nominal $25.

The PR on this event will be announced shortly with a registration link.  Look for it and save the date for this timely and interesting discussion on what works, whether and how to go about including eBooks in your collection, and other concerns you may have.

If you are able, the New England School Library Association is having an Un-conference this Saturday in Bedford NH with Patrick Larkin and Shannon Miller. One of the topics is eBooks.  Walk-ins are welcome and it's a nice ride up.  See you there if you decide to go!

Subject: [CASL-L] eBooks for Elementary schools

Hello all -

I would appreciate any information regarding IF elementary schools in particular are using eBooks and if so, how is this being implemented.

Our district is going through the budget process and Board of Education members and parents are asking lots of questions about this.

We are wondering

1)  if other districts are using eBooks in their elementary schools
2) do you provide devices and if so what kind
3)  how are devices checked out
4) do you use a service such as overdrive or Follett -
5)  If you do use a service, is there enough selection for elementary students (fiction & nonfiction)
6) anything else that you think might be relevant

Thank you so much for any help you can give.

You can reply offlist to jlussier@rsd13.org
I would be happy to put all the information I receive together to share.
