Introduction to Dublin Core - May 14th (MLSC)
Dublin Core (so named because it was developed in the town of Dublin, Ohio) is a metadata standard for describing digital objects. It is similar to AACR2 and MARC, but simpler, and it is more conducive to describing audio, video and electronic resources. Dublin Core is the metadata schema most often used for digital repositories such as those at the American Geographical Society, Mystic Seaport, and C/W MARS. This workshop is for people interested in creating metadata for a digitization project. Please bring a photograph or document to describe.

Cataloging Electronic Resources - May 14th (MLSC)
Libraries are so much more than books! Electronic Resources are becoming a larger and larger part of the collection as well as becoming more popular among patrons. The cataloging rules are actually the same as for books - but there are different aspects to consider. This workshop looks at how Playaways, eBooks, electronic versions of print books and web sites are cataloged using AACR2. It also introduces participants to the ways Resource Description and Access (RDA) - the new content standard to be adopted by the Library of Congress in March 2013 - is different from AACR2. Cataloging Consultant Dodie Gaudet helps to unravels the myriad options when cataloging these new media
