Tom, Sage Park has been using Google calendar for a long time to manage sign ups for all computer labs and library spaces.  We made a separate calendar for each library space and then combined them all into one calendar and linked it to our library web site so you could see all of the spaces at the same time, or you could view each space separately.  We let teachers view the calendar, but then they had to email us to tell us what we they wanted reserved.  Librarians only would put the reservations on the calendar because it kept us in the loop with where we were needed in the building.  Also, if teachers needed extra equipment we would know far in advance.  It was/is an excellent system to discard your paper sign out books!

Subject: [CASL-L] Google Calendar as scheduler for computer labs and carts

Good Morning Fellow Librariae,

We are now a 'Google school' and I'd like to use google calendar for signing up / displaying bookings for computer labs, carts, and resources. I want to know how some of your schools might handle using google calendar for these purposes. I want teachers to see the bookings and be able to 'book' thier own times into the calendar for these resources. But maybe to keep it orderly library staff should be the ones updating the calendar bookings.

How might you be utilizing google calendar? Best practices?

Thanks folks,

Thomas
