Nutmeg Book Award Announces 2013 Winners
After an extra few months of reading, we are excited to announce the 2013 Nutmeg Book Award Winners!
Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea is the winner of the Intermediate Award and
Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry is the winner of the Teen Award.
Because of Mr. Terupt was suggested to the Selection Committee by a student reader, truly demonstrating the influence our young readers have on this award. Rot & Ruin won with a small margin over The Running Dream with only 58 votes separating the 1st and 2nd place titles. Over 30,000 students voted from across the state of Connecticut.
This award encourages children in grades 4-8 to read quality literature and to choose their favorite from a list of ten nominated titles. Jointly sponsored by the Connecticut Library Association (CLA) and the Connecticut Association of School Librarians (CASL), the Nutmeg Committee is comprised of teen readers, children's librarians and school library media specialists who are members of our sponsoring organizations.
Our thanks go to all of the schools and libraries which adjusted to our new timeline and participated in this year's voting.
