AASL seeks AASL personal members to read and score 1-page essays on behalf of the Library of Congress. Scoring will take place between August 12 and September 12, 2013. The essays, written by 5
th & 6
th graders, are entries in
“A Book That Shaped Me” Library of Congress National Book Festival Summer Writing Contest. Scoring will narrow the pool for grand-prize judging by a Library of Congress selected panel of educators, children’s authors and staff. Volunteers will be asked to read 75-100 essays.

The
“A Book That Shaped Me” Library of Congress National Book Festival Summer Writing Contest encourages rising 5th & 6th graders to reflect on a book that has made a personal impact on their lives. The contest is administered through local public library systems in the Mid-Atlantic region, and top winners are honored at the Library of Congress National Book Festival in September on the National Mall.
