Dear Massachusetts School Library Association,
I am reaching out to share Dream of a Nation, a book and non-profit education initiative that supports the implementation of Common Core in the classroom and engages young people in interacting with critical contemporary issues. Dream of a Nation is an open source electronic and paper book containing articles which address the most pressing issues of our time, from environmental stewardship to ending poverty and creating a stable and equitable economy.
Our book is all free and open-sourced at www.dreamofanation.org/educators along with common core aligned lesson and unit plans, alignment matrixes to 47 state social studies standards, lesson plans, and much more. The resources are now being used in over 500 secondary schools and higher learning institutions throughout the U.S.
Dream of a Nation is a high Lexile level (1340), non-fiction text which aptly supports the Common Core emphasis on text range, quality and complexity. Our website includes resources for teachers to use these articles in their social studies and English classes, grades 8-12. Rubrics, student materials and online resources for students to complete Big6 research projects, analytic essays, narrative essays and class or school wide debates mean that teachers in your school can use Dream of a Nation, in addition to students.
Our students deserve the best resources possible; our future depends upon it.
