I used TRAILS last year with grade 6 students in conjunction with the Computer Applications teacher.  I am the only one using the assessment in my district.  It served as a pre-test to identify areas of weakness. As Jennifer is doing with her freshmen,  I also am writing one of my SLOs based year will administer the same two assessments as a post-test to the grade 7 students.  I am collaborating with science teachers and integrating skills into units during the year.  Frankly, I don't like the way some of the questions are designed, but it does give a good overview of information and technology literacy.

Hi,
We do use TRAILS in Brookfield.  Every freshman takes the 9th grade TRAILS assessment in their science class in September.  I create and manage the session, and distribute access codes to teachers.  When the assessment is completed we can measure our student's weakest areas as a group individually by student, by class, etc.  (those areas are usually "developing a topic" and "evaluating information")

I wrote one of my SLO's around an identified area of weakness.  Because the science classes also require research skills, they use this information to identify which areas of the research process they will need to structure more heavily for their projects.

Students post-test with the 9th grade TRAILS at the end of the year and we can measure growth with those numbers.

Awesome!!
I don't think anyone else in my district is using it.
I'm sure Brookfield is, as Sydnye told me about it initially.

Subject: [CASL-L] Use of TRAILS query

Good Morning,

My fellow teacher-librarians are currently in a PD session and we are interested in finding out more about which other school districts in CT are also using the TRAILS to assess information literacy skills. If you are using the TRAILS in your district, can you share a little info about how it is being implemented/utilized in your schools?

Thanks so much for your insight!
