Presented by Carolyn Jacobs, Senior Manager, Training and Educator Engagement, WGBH Education and PBS LearningMedia; and Cynthia Warner, Education Consultant, KET (Kentucky Educational Television)

Join us for a deep and entertaining exploration of adolescent literacy issues and the Inspiring Middle School Literacy collection, a free resource of cross-curricular lessons mapped to the Common Core and available at no cost at http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/collection/midlit.

The Inspiring Middle School Literacy lessons enhance the literacy skills of middle school students while engaging them in a topic, e.g., multiplying fractions, plate tectonics, immigration, civil rights, bullying. Each lesson uses video, interactive activities, note taking, reading and writing. Students read informational text, view short public media clips, write responses, and save their work for review. Each lesson addresses a range of literacy strategies such as drawing inferences, comparing and contrasting, and building vocabulary. Teacher guides are included, and all lessons are mapped to the Common Core State Standards.
