FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TIME For Kids goes LIVE from Antarctica with edWeb.net
PRINCETON, NJ, December 9, 2013 - TIME For Kids, a weekly classroom news magazine that motivates kids to read, and edWeb.net, a professional social and learning network, will be presenting a webinar, "TFK Live From Antarctica!," on Thursday, January 23rd at 1PM Eastern Time.
In this webinar, TFK science writer David Bjerklie and photo editor and photographer Don Heiny will broadcast live from Antarctica to talk about their experience and the work being done on the icy continent by the National Science Foundation. They will also answer questions from teachers and students live during the presentation. Educators can submit a question from their class when they register.
The special webinar from the furthest reaches of the earth is being presented as part of TIME For Kids' community for educators on edWeb.net, Real World Literacy and the Common Core.
Real World Literacy and the Common Core is a professional learning community (PLC) that provides teaching ideas and lesson plans that are aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Topics explored in this community include Reading Informational Text, Teaching Persuasive Writing, and Five Engaging Activities for Meeting the Common Core State Standards Right Now, and more.
The community hosts free webinars for elementary and middle school educators, presented by Suzanne Zimbler, Assistant Managing Editor, TIME For Kids and Jaime Joyce, Assistant Managing Editor, Education, TIME For Kids.
The community was launched in July 2013 and has broken edWeb attendance records with over 1,800 educators registered for the most recent webinar on Focus on Integration of Knowledge and Ideas.
An educator attending the webinar summed up the value of the webinar for professional development, "Thank you so very much for providing this FREE webinar - with funding so tight, this option is about all we have for our professional development - very helpful."
Lisa Schmucki, founder and CEO of edWeb.net, commented, "I started my career in education working for TIME, Inc., so it is especially rewarding to help the TFK editors present this outstanding program. Jaime and Suzanne connect with teachers in such a personal and helpful way and provide such valuable ideas and examples for how to use resources like TIME For Kids to meet Common Core State Standards. This is a program that is very needed and much appreciated."
"We are thrilled that TIME For Kids is going to Antarctica," says TFK Managing Editor Nellie Gonzalez Cutler, "but what's even more exciting is that we will be able to share this learning adventure with teachers and students in a live webinar."
