I must say, I wasn’t a fan of this cafe table idea when I first read about it.  But now that I’ve seen the photo and heard how students like them so they can stand and work next to someone, I’m intrigued.  I was picturing round, without much space for books, but I see they make rectangular ones as well.   I went to the Demco site and I can get ones that match my current furniture.  I’m not in a rush, but I imagine I will not need fifteen computers in my library when we move to a one-to-one model over the next several years.  I would love to put these cafe tables in my computer area instead.  Now if only we could tile the floor under them and serve coffee like Barnes and Noble!

These are absolutely gorgeous, Lisa!  I love them!!  I wish they had them in a size for elementary students!

We purchased 2 high top tables this spring for the library at Ellington Middle School and they are very popular! The students, staff, and parents that visit the library are all drawn to them. We’ve got 4 more on order that should arrive this summer. They actually make collaborative work easier with room for the stools (I have 4 at a table) and still room for others to stand around the table without bending over or kneeling on the floor cause there aren’t enough chairs.

This purchase coincides with a technology refresh year so we’re removing 12 of our 18 desktop computers (replacing with Chromebooks for more flexible  use) and that will free up space for the tables. At this time, we aren’t planning to remove any of our current regular height tables but we’ll see how everything fits and go from there!

I ordered mine from Demco. They are very sturdy and the stools are comfortable with a good weight to them.

Hi all,
I am wondering how many of you have  high tables in your high School library -- like the ones found in a coffee shop.

My principal seems to think this is a good idea and wants to remove some of my study carrels and replace with "modern furniture".  I am thinking this is not a good idea, as I have students that like to sit at the study carrels.  I am also thinking the high top tables will not be good for working on school projects.  As there would only be a few I assume I cannot use ADA compliant as a reason for not having the tables.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.
