Reap the benefits of a well-weeded collection! This session will discuss weeding techniques, collection management policies, and how to motivate reluctant weeders—all with sense of humor and encouragement from the pair behind the blog “Awful Library Books.”
Participants will find joy in a shelf list that reflects a clean, relevant, and current collection!
Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this one-hour webinar, participants will:
Identify their own and others’ contributions to the collection life cycle in their library;
Value and defend weeding as essential to collection quality;
Be able to articulate how their library’s collection helps achieve their library’s mission; and
Know how to create a collection management plan for their organization.
Who Should Attend
All staff whose duties include the use or handling of the library collection, and especially those involved with selection and weeding. Beginners will find tips for getting started in collection management; those with some experience will learn new techniques for things like physical inventory; and those with a lot of experience will find themselves newly motivated to look at their collections with fresh eyes.
