Libraries now and then
Rebecca T. Miller, Editor-in-Chief
Today SLJ jumps into the Throwback Thursday fun on SLJ.com as a way to look back where we’ve been—yep, a 1964 black-and-white photo of a certain young Caldecott-winning author—and measure how far we’ve come—with virtual conferences, for one, including the upcoming The Digital Shift: Libraries @ the Center, now on its fifth year. This year’s event (Oct. 1, 10 am-5 pm ET) will focus on the central role libraries play in our culture’s transformation toward digital with Daniel J. Levitin, award-winning scientist and author of The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in an Age of Information Overload keynoting, and a lineup of strong presenters in three tracks. Register here.
And don’t miss the deadline for nominations for the new SLJ Buzz Award sponsored by Brain Hive. It’s right around the corner on September 15. Librarians have played—and continue to play—such a central role in fostering literacy, and you deserve to be recognized. Check out the guidelines.
