edWeb.net and Shutterfly launch Creating Multimedia Stories for Learning
Professional learning community to focus on empowering more students to become published authors

PRINCETON, NJ, March 3, 2015 - edWeb.net, a professional learning and social network for the education community, is partnering with Shutterfly, the leader in personal publishing, to present Creating Multimedia Stories for Learning to help students discover their individual voices and share their stories.

Creating Multimedia Stories for Learning is a free professional learning community (PLC) where educators can share and discover creative and innovative ways for their students to demonstrate and document their knowledge by designing and publishing stories. Through dynamic webinars and online discussions, members can explore multimedia tools using photos, video, audio, text, and drawings and their application across various content areas; and also learn about ways to leverage their school's technology investment and support project-based learning while motivating students to become published authors. Participants can select from and contribute to a K-12 collection of teacher-developed standards-based lesson plans utilizing technology for multimedia stories that meet ISTE's technology standards.

Creating Multimedia Stories for Learning is a growing PD hub with webinar archives, a discussion forum, and resource materials that can be accessed at anytime, anywhere. The new PLC offers educators a place to post questions, share practical tips, and get feedback from experts and peers. Participants receive a CE Certificate for attending a live webinar or for viewing a recording.

"Students are so excited to create personal stories using online technology, and Shutterfly makes this so easy for the teachers and the students," said Lisa Schmucki, CEO and Founder of edWeb.net. "Shutterfly's community on edWeb will be such a great place for educators to share ideas about all kinds of projects that help students be published authors."

"Shutterfly is excited to partner with edWeb.net to tap into our focus and expertise in personal publishing to inspire teachers to leverage multimedia technology with their students in the classroom," said Lara Hoyem, Sr. Director of Photo Books at Shutterfly.

Educational technology specialist Gayle Horsma presented the first Creating Multimedia Stories for Learning webinar. Over 350 live attendees participated in the one-hour session that explored new ways to use technology to engage and inspire student writing. Educators can view the webinar here.

Educators are invited to join the free Creating Multimedia Stories for Learning PLC on edWeb.net to stay informed about upcoming webinars, join in online discussions, and gain access to valuable resources.
