Librarians !

As former co-chair of MSLA Legislation committee, I felt the need to distribute this information regarding our colleagues in Connecticut.

I'm sure letters, emails, phone calls, and tweets of support for library programming in Connecticut will follow.

Dear Legislative Committee:

We just received this copy of an emergency advocacy effort being made by Connecticut libraries.  They are threatened with total elimination of State funding for their library programs.  I thought you should be aware of this matter and would be interested in seeing how another state is responding to a catastrophe like this.  Gulp!

Thanks, John

Subject: Cuts to Connecticut libraries' funding

The Governor's proposed budget
will not only
zero-out funding for Connecticut libraries, but will eliminate the statutes that allow these valuable programs to exist.

What does this mean for you and for Suffield?

Cuts to

ConnectiCard

Connecticut residents will only be able to borrow

books from their hometown library-the ability to

borrow from any public library in
the state will disappear.

The Connecticut Library Consortium (CLC) will no longer be able to save $7.1M in taxpayer dollars by coordinating statewide purchasing contracts for books and services.

 Cuts to CLC

Cuts to Grants

This funding helps libraries already under
financial strain to continue to provide necessary services to residents. Cutting grants hurts those people who need libraries the most.

Write, call or email your legislator and governor:

Once these statutes are eliminated, they will be nearly impossible to reinstate. Now is not the time to remain quiet.
Make some noise for libraries! Speak out for library funding!
