Here’s some more information about our weeding workshops:
We choose a public library that is interested in weeding their own library collections and has meeting space (with a projector) and plenty of parking to host the workshop.
We spend the first two hours of the workshop going over the “whys” and “hows” of weeding, the CREW method, how to get all staff and stakeholders on board (including the
custodian!), and what to do with the weeded books. We cover children's and adult books and (some) media, and answer any questions you may have.
The hosting library provides enough book carts for all the weeders (up to 20), who usually weed in pairs. Weeding workshop participants go out and weed particular areas
in the hosting library. We cap off the workshop with each participant talking about one or two of the books they pulled, and why they pulled them. At the end of the workshop, the final choice to weed or not to weed the items pulled is in the hands of the hosting
library's staff.
We have coffee and refreshments and the workshop usually goes from 10-1, with one break.
If you would like to volunteer your library as a workshop location, please send me your name, the library’s name and location, and a bit about the areas in
your library that need the most attention. Include some info about the size of your meeting space and parking lot, and some general scheduling info (days/times during the week that work best for you). We plan to do one workshop in the fall and one in the spring.
If you have already sent me this info, you do not need to do so again.
If you have any questions, please contact me anytime.
