This session covers the nuts and bolts of why library staff and leadership should be advocates for their library, and how to go about doing it. We’ll review the differences between lobbying and advocacy, where the line is, and how and when to cross over from one to the other.

Overview of the early literacy components, the five practices (sing, talk, read, write and play) and eight modules in ECRR 2nd edition. Designed to give participants the skills necessary to be able to present early literacy workshops for parents and caregivers. Demonstration of centerpiece adult workshop. The parent and child workshops (Fun with Letters, Fun with Words, Fun with Science and Math, Fun with Parent and Child) will be reviewed with hands-on practice included.

Typically, the biggest partnership library managers need to address is the one with the Friends of the Library. Beyond that, there is a veritable buffet of opportunities to choose from. How do you figure out which one will be the most fruitful? For example, how can youth services staff benefit from partnerships within the community? Is there more than partnering with the local elementary school? Where can adult services find a useful partnership?

Learn how to organize and share your data more effectively using Microsoft Excel 2010. Class topics will include basic formula, charts, graphs, tables, and some of the new features in Excel 2010. Basic knowledge of Excel helpful, but not required.

Webinar: Tablets for Library Research with Rita Gavelis

In this webinar, Rita Gavelis will demonstrate how tablets can function like a desktop or laptop in the library, from searching publications databases, to creating and editing documents.
Though an iPad will be used for demonstration purposes, the content of the webinar can apply to many Android tablets as well.

MS Word - Tabs and Tables with Diane McKeever

This course should be a requirement for anyone that uses Microsoft Word. We’ll explore the two ways to enter information into columns. We’ll start by exploring the use of tabs and then move on to inserting and formatting tables. Basic computer knowledge and some familiarity with MS Word is required.
This workshop will also be offered on October 2 at the Middletown Library Service Center

 

MS Word - Mail Merge and Using Graphics with Diane McKeever
Darien

Mail merge is the powerful feature in Word that allows you to create mailing labels and personalized emails from lists you’ve created. In addition, we’ll explore inserting graphics into a document, wrap text and add special formats. Basic computer knowledge and some familiarity with MS Word is required.
This workshop will also be offered on October 2 at the Middletown Library Service Center
