Special Programming for School Groups
|
Dear Educator,
On Mondays, November 2, 9, 16, and 23, The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art will be offering a special program for students in grades K-3. The program will include Picture Book Theatre's puppet adaptation of Eric Carle's Rooster's Off to See the World and "Slowly, Slowly, Slowly," Said the Sloth. This forty-minute production has been adapted and created by Therese Brady Donohue, founder of Picture Book Theatre. Given the popularity of these performances and the limited nature of this offering, it is being made available on a first-come first-served basis for a cost of $9 per student.
In addition to seeing the production of Rooster's Off to See the World and "Slowly, Slowly, Slowly," Said the Sloth (a ticket value of $6) and providing each child with a paperback copy of one of the books, this 3-hour visit to the museum (10:00 am to 1:00 pm) will include a talk-back with producer Therese Brady Donohue, an opportunity to create art in the Art Studio, and an orientation to self-guided time in the galleries. Exhibitions on view include The Art of Eric Carle: From A to Z, and Gray Matter: David Macaulay's Black & White. Children are asked to bring their lunches which can be eaten in the Museum's Café.
This opportunity to see how a book can be adapted into another medium can be a very enriching experience for young children. In addition to being a wonderful introduction to the world of theater, it also creates a personal connection with the book; a proven way to encourage reading.
Due to the fact that the Museum is closed to the public on Mondays, this special Monday program can accommodate approximately eighty children each day. We invite your school to make a reservation to participate in this space-limited opportunity.
