The SLJ review says grades 8 and Up. This is so tricky, but the criteria includes materials for children up to age 14.
Here's a good review form Commonsense Media: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/this-one-summer
Good info to know and to share with parents.

Hi all,
I have just discovered that one of the Caldecott honor books for this year - This One Summer by Jillian Tamaki - has some very graphic content and language.  If your students are young, you may want to pull the book and read it!

I had a parent bring this to my attention this morning - yikes!  Who knew that a Caldecott winner would need to be screened!  Being an award winner gives it some teeth, but it is definitely not elementary school material.
