I have one section of reference (4 shelves) still separate from the general collection, with almanacs, dictionaries, the PDR and other misc. ref on it.  Everything else is incorporated into the general collection, designated Circulating Reference, and checks out for one week instead of three.  Getting students to look in two separate sections of the library wasn't working, and the CR materials are actually used now.  It also opened up a section of the library large enough to put in 24 computers!  Win-win.

This is my Reference Room.  It's beautiful and my only classroom space.  It is also used for meetings.  If I toss the books, I'll probably lose the space.  Not sure what else to put on those shelves.  Anyone else in a similar position?  I don't really need those fifteen-year-old encyclopedias in the back!  It's too small for the fiction or non-fiction.  I'd have to just put some of the non-fiction in there, but it would be harder to justify holding on to the room.  A makerspace would never fly.  It would become an AD's office or a career center.

Good morning.

I am wondering how many high school libraries still keep a printed reference section.  If so, what types of books does it feature?  We are substantially weeding our reference section and I was curious to see how many schools have eliminated it entirely.

Thanks!
