edWeb.net and Nureva launch new digital portfolio professional learning community
PRINCETON, NJ, October 21, 2015 - edWeb.net and Nureva Inc. have partnered to present Digital Portfolios for K-12, a free professional learning community (PLC) for educators to share ideas and best practices around the meaningful integration of digital portfolios to empower students to take ownership of their learning.
The new Digital Portfolios for K-12 community provides educators with helpful tips for a successful implementation and ideas for using digital portfolios throughout the school year. Digital portfolios enable students to document evidence of their learning, reflect on their work, and receive feedback on their progress from teachers, parents, and classmates. The community also hosts free webinars and live chats that are highly engaging and interactive.
"Educators get so excited when they learn how to use technology to have a meaningful impact on student learning. Digital portfolios have that impact and encourage student ownership of their work," said Lisa Schmucki, founder and CEO of edWeb.net. Digital Portfolios for K-12 is a growing professional development hub with webinar archives, a discussion forum, and resource materials that can be accessed at anytime and anywhere. The new PLC offers educators a place to post questions, share practical tips, and get feedback from experts and peers on utilizing digital portfolios in the classroom. Webinar participants receive a CE certificate for attending a live webinar or for viewing a recording.

The first webinar, "Increasing Student Ownership of Learning Using Digital Portfolios," was presented by Rachel Langenhorst, K-12 Technology Integrationist and Instructional Coach at Rock Valley Community Schools in Rock Valley, Iowa. Ms. Langenhorst noted that effective learning takes place when students review their own work and reflect on their academic development. She shared some of the best online tools and apps to meet the needs of all grade levels. Educators can watch the recording.
