Implementing Blended Learning: the Myth vs. the Reality
Stacy Hawthorne, Edgenuity Blended Learning Consultant
and CEO/Lead Strategist at Hawthorne Education

Thursday, October 29th

The landscape of blended learning is quickly growing and ever-changing. There’s a lot of information out there, but how much of it is true? How does a school or a teacher make the switch from traditional teaching to blended learning? What does success look like? Our presentation will discuss what is true about blended learning, dispel the myths, and walk attendees through how to successfully make the change.

First, we’ll take a look at the blended learning landscape and address misinformation. Next, we’ll discuss the most popular blended learning models, and then provide examples of successful implementations. Finally, we will share first-hand experience in the practical application of blended learning and offer tips and suggestions for those just starting out.

Stacy Hawthorne, CEO/Lead Strategist at Hawthorne Education, works with schools and districts across the United States as they design and implement technology rich educational models. She started her consulting work with Evergreen Education Group, authors of the annual Keeping Pace report and a trusted consultant to some of the largest school districts in the country. Prior to her work with Evergreen, Stacy conceived and implemented a successful blended learning program as Technology Integration Coordinator for Medina City Schools in Ohio. Her passion for student-centric and technology-rich learning models grew from her   experience as a classroom teacher.
Additionally, she is the Past-President for ISTE’s Administrator professional learning network. Stacy was awarded the Silver President’s Volunteer Service award in 2015 for her efforts. Stacy was a contributor to iNACOL’s Blended Learning Teacher Competency Framework that was released in October and a researcher for the 2014 Keeping Pace with Digital Learning and 2015 Proof Points project.
