Carl Harvey, AASL 65th Anniversary Committee Chair
2016 will mark AASL's 65th Anniversary. It's amazing to think back at how far we've come in those 65 years of service to school libraries. Standards, professional development, leadership building, and networking have been the hallmarks of the work AASL has done over the years (and will continue to do). To mark this anniversary, AASL is launching a giving campaign, titled "It's in Our Hands: Celebrate the Past and Transform the Future." The campaign is a way to celebrate our anniversary and use the funds to help transform our future. The funds from this campaign will be focused on two major projects.

The AASL Conference IdeaLab is a great way to “speed learn” and collect best practices and innovative ideas from school librarians and library educators from all over the U.S. It is billed by AASL as a “best practices showcase.” IdeaLab is the latest in the series of cafeteria-style sharing opportunities for AASL Conference attendees. The concept began in 2005 with the Exploratorium, became the IdeaXChange in 2014, and now evolved into the IdeaLab.

Join members of the Project Connect panel for a frank and honest discussion of what administrators need and expect from their school library programs and school librarians. Panel members are award-winning superintendents in districts that are maximizing the impact school libraries have on student outcomes.

Come meet some of your favorite authors at the Authorpalooza! Authors from AASL concurrent sessions and events and local authors from Ohio will sign your books and answer your questions. While some authors may have complimentary titles available, be sure to visit the AASL Bookstore or exhibiting publisher booths to pick-up the authors' latest titles. Limited quantities of titles will be available for sale in the booth. (Credit-card purchases only.)

The Mazza Museum is the world’s largest museum of original artwork by children’s book illustrators. Its goal is to promote literacy and enrich the lives of all people through the art of children’s literature. During AASL National Conference, the museum will showcase a travelling display of original artwork and a museum representative will be on hand to discuss the artwork with attendees.

Join authors Matt de la Peña, Sonia Manzano, and Rita Williams-Garcia for the Author Banquet. The theme for the evening is “Diverse Authors, Diverse Voices.” A signing will follow the event and books will be available for purchase. (Credit-card sales only.)
