In the districts that make up the school library system I lead in western New York, a trend is emerging of superintendents thinking that they need to replace retiring school librarians with some sort of literacy specialist. The thinking is to have someone who can support inquiry, technology, reading, and other aspects of literacy....like a school librarian. But the connection is not being made that these are all key skills of a school librarian and critical attributes of a quality school library program.

In an attempt to provide some resources and support to one district that I serve, I threw together an informational sheet that I wanted to share here for feedback. Feel free to use it in any way that might help as well, though you might want to wait for the final version improved by the incredible group think on here! https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6D3oPexjUZeVE0xbEp5b1lzVWc

Also, here are some links to resources on the literacy and reading role of school librarians.

Thanks,
