Fall Online Courses:

LIB K101 – Introduction to Library Public Services   3- credits

This course is an introduction to library services in libraries of all types.  Students will learn about procedures such as circulation, reference, and interlibrary loan.  Other services such as public relations, programming, and displays are also discussed, as well as the importance of Intellectual Freedom and Censorship. The role of LSS in customer service is emphasized.

 

LIB K116 – Introduction to Cataloging and Classification  3 credits

Course Description:

This course is an introduction to the principles and practices of descriptive cataloging, subject headings and classification systems. Students will learn how to create MARC21 bibliographic records using current RDA rules, the importance of authority control, how to copy catalog, and assign Dewey and LC call numbers. Both print and non-print materials will be covered. Students will also learn about metadata and how the development of BIBFRAME will impact future cataloging.

 

Special Topics one credit, five week courses will be offered online for library staff who work in the areas of public services or cataloging. 

 

Credit by Exam opportunities may be offered to qualified staff.
