President's Report
Leslie Preddy | Perry Meridian Middle School (IN)
President, 2015 - 2016

The ALA Annual Conference is an incredible time of professional renewal, networking, and hard work for your AASL leadership. There was much work to be done at this year’s annual in Orlando as we wrapped up the year and set a course for the coming year. Throughout 2015–2016, AASL committees and sections worked diligently on challenging and complex tasks brought forth by the AASL Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Affiliate Assembly. Heartfelt kudos to our committees, sections, and volunteers for the time and effort invested in an amazing and productive year!

The AASL Board reviewed many preliminary reports from committees and sections at the 2016 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Boston; at ALA Annual the board examined final reports from the committees and sections and made final decisions on many items in order to move the association forward. Much more was accomplished than can be detailed here, so be sure to keep an eye on the KQ website for leadership updates and the AASL website for the full board minutes.

President-Elect's Report
Audrey Church | Longwood University (VA)
President-Elect, 2015 - 2016

Your 2016-2017 AASL Board of Directors began its work year at the Board III meeting on Monday, June 27, at the ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, FL. Members new to the Board include Laura Hicks, Region 2 Director; Ann Schuster, Region 9 Director; Sarah Searles, Supervisors Section Representative; and Wendy Stephens, Region 5 Director. Returning to the Board and serving in new capacities for 2016-2017 are Devona Pendergrass as Member-at-Large and Steven Yates as President-Elect.

Excitement and energy filled the Board meeting room as we began to address the work of the Association.

Treasurer's Report
Robbie Nickel | Sage Elementary School (NV)
Treasurer, 2014 - 2017

As your treasurer, this is one of my opportunities to share with you the financial picture of the American Association to School Librarians. The AASL Board keeps in mind the AASL Strategic Plan and how the association’s budget and its activities fit into these strategic goals: association relevance, membership development, and association governance and leadership. At the ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, the AASL Board reviewed the status of the 2016 budget, which is on track with projections. Facts about the 2016 budget can be found in the 2016 Virtual Membership Meeting. The 2017 AASL budget was also approved at the conference. As always, the AASL Board of Directors and the AASL staff work hard to keep expenses and revues in line.

Councilor's Report
Diane Chen | Stratford STEM School (TN)
AASL Representative to ALA Council, 2015 - 2018

“Equity to all for school libraries” was a powerful rallying point for ALA Council in Orlando. AASL led the process to craft a resolution on equity, inviting ALA Council and members of all types of libraries to contribute using ALA Connect, Google Documents, and face-to-face meetings. AASL introduced three resolutions to Council which were then referred to the Committee on Legislation and became part of their large report to Council. All three resolutions passed with unanimous approval of Council.

Affiliate Assembly Chair's Report
Lori Donovan | Chesterfield County Public Schools (VA)
Affiliate Chair, 2015 - 2016

ALA Annual for AASL Affiliate Assembly began with a Leadership Development Meeting on Friday afternoon. This was a meeting to showcase how AASL Affiliate Assembly works, and to introduce the AASL leadership and staff members who support Affiliate Assembly. It also provided an opportunity for affiliate members to learn new strategies for developing leaders back in their states with the support of AASL. New members to Affiliate Assembly were able to meet with and get to know other members in their Regions and from around the country.
