Subject: FREE Professional Development - Medal of Honor
Dear colleagues,
My name is Javier Martinez and all of us were together in Boston in the summer of 2012 for the NEH class about the American Revolution. How time flies. I trust you are all well.
I am writing you as a shameless commercial for a fantastic program I am involved with called the
Character Development Program presented through the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation. I am a Regional Curriculum Trainer with the Foundation and our mission is to bring this Professional Development opportunity to teachers around the country.
(I am also still teaching US History to Juniors)
The goal of the program is to use the stories of the Medal of Honor recipients to teach our students about the 6 Character Values of
Commitment, Courage, Citizenship, Sacrifice, Integrity, and Patriotism displayed by these men. The intended result is that we as teachers will develop the next group of young adults that will recognize the value of selfless service to their community.
The program is geared towards Middle and High School students with an Elementary curriculum currently being developed. The Foundation will come to your school and provide a one day Professional Development session. You will have an opportunity
to see videos about the recipients, work with teacher developed lesson plans, model the lessons you will use with your students, and in some cases have an opportunity to meet a Medal of Honor recipient for a Q & A session. Each teacher that attends will leave
with a binder full of lesson plans, videos, Blackline Masters, and access to additional online material. The lesson are cross-curricular and can be woven into your classroom seamlessly.
All of this, including breakfast, and lunch are provided at NO COST to your school district.
Think about how much better our society would be if people displayed these values in their day to day lives.
If you have interest in scheduling a training session or need more information, please e-mail me.
Sincerely,
Javier Martinez
