Join us for this gala occasion celebrating the Newbery, Caldecott and Wilder Medalists and Honorees, authors and illustrators of the year’s most distinguished books for children. Cocktails (cash bar) available prior to dinner; doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will not be sold at the door and a limited number of tickets will be available at Onsite Registration until noon on Friday, June 23. Pre-registration required, $94 individual tickets (non-assigned seating). Reserved table seating (ten seats) available. Table reservations must be made directly with the ALSC office.

YALSA and Booklist Present: The Michael L. Printz Program and Reception

Kick off your Annual Conference by attending the Michael L. Printz Program and Reception on Friday night! Come listen to the 2017 Michael L. Printz award-winning authors, John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell, and honor book authors, Louise O’Neill, Julie Berry, Neal Shusterman, and Nicola Yoon speak about their writing, followed by a reception. YA Author Coffee Klatch

Enjoy coffee and meet with YALSA's award-winning authors! This informal coffee klatch will give you an opportunity to meet authors who have appeared on one of YALSA’s six annual selected lists or have received one of YALSA's five literary awards. Librarians will sit at a table and every 3 or 4 minutes, a new author will arrive at your table to talk about their upcoming book!

AASL Awards Ceremony & President’s Program
Saturday, June 24 | 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
The AASL Awards Ceremony highlights best practices in school librarianship through collaboration, leadership, innovative programming, national involvement, and upholding the principles of the profession. The program is a public acknowledgment and celebration of school librarians who have made a significant contribution and modeled excellence within the profession. Also recognized, the 2017 AASL Best Websites and Best Apps for Teaching and Learning, and a new recognition this year, the 2017 AASL Social Media Superstars.
AASL President Audrey Church will present the final award during the AASL President's Program. The Crystal Apple Award is given at the discretion of the AASL President to an individual or group who has had significant impact on school libraries and students. The program will conclude with Dr. Scott Beck, Ph.D., head principal at Norman High School (OK), who will speak about how a 21st-century school librarian contributes to student outcomes. This will be an amazing advocacy opportunity for any librarian to hear what administrators expect from their school librarians and how you can make yourself indispensable. Free.

Celebrate the best in children's literature and media at the annual presentation of the Batchelder, Carnegie, Geisel and Sibert Awards on Monday, June 26th! ALSC Charlemae Rollins President's Program - Plugging into the Digital Age: Libraries Engaging and Supporting Families with Today’s Literacy
Monday, June 26 | 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Digital technology impacts all areas of life: brain development, learning styles, and interpersonal relationships. Experts in the field have gathered to present the latest research on digital-age technology and its relationship to childhood development and childhood literacy. This panel will feature Chip Donohue from the Erikson Institute and Sarah R. Lytle from the Institute for Learning and Brain Sciences, who will present the latest research in this area of study. Lisa Regalla from the Center for Childhood Creativity at the Bay Area Discovery Museum will discuss practical ways to implement this information in our libraries & services. This program will provide attendees with innovative ways for librarians to enhance their professional development and grow into their role as media mentors for children and caregivers. Free.

YALSA President Sarah Hill’s year-long initiative, "Real Teens, Real Ready" focuses on the need for libraries to evolve in order to effectively serve today’s teens.
