A few more recent publications that I read and loved:  Orhan's Inheritance by Aline Ohanesian, When the Moon is Low by Nadia Hashimi, In the Language of Miracles by Rajia Hassib, Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi.  

I also have The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen on my to-read list. Won the Pulitzer last year, and it tackles a subject I imagine not a lot of people know about. I heard a great interview with the author on NPR.
