[Conntech] Genealogy/Local History Room collections

I have been put in charge of our Genealogy/Local History Room and have two
issues I need to address and would appreciate some feedback from other
librarians who maintain these collections in a public library setting.

 

First, I need to create a Collection Development Policy.  If anyone has a
separate collection development policy concerning these special collections,
I would appreciate your forwarding me a copy.  

 

Next, I know of several public libraries that lock the special collections
room (or enclosed glass case in some instances) and request that patrons
either make an appointment or see a librarian for access.  Would you please
respond as to how you handle access to your special collections room.
