On Thursday November 29th at 7:30 p.m., the Friends of the Wesleyan Library and the Wesleyan Center for Film Studies will host a screening of the 1997 film version of Nabokov's "Lolita" followed by a discussion with its screenwriter, Stephen Schiff. This is the inaugural event in a new series, Adaptation, which will examine the difficulties of adapting literary works to the screen, including such issues as censorship, condensing longer works, and casting.
The film, directed by Adrian Lyne, stars Jeremy Irons, Melanie Griffith, and Dominique Swain. It was praised for its "imaginative fidelity" and sensitivity "to Nabokov's wit as well as his lyricism."
This free event will take place at the Goldsmith Family Cinema, in the Center for Film Studies, on the campus of Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
