Make sure the oral histories in your collection survive well into the future.
Librarians and archivists rarely have input over how oral histories are created. Therefore, it is vital that they follow proper storage guidelines once the oral histories come into the library or archives. The SOLINET class Preserving Oral Histories covers the selection of appropriate storage formats and housings for sound and video recordings, transcribed interviews, interview notes, and photographs. The class also covers reformatting and digitization issues and discusses how recording equipment can be used to create a high-quality oral history that will last well into the future.
Preserving Oral Histories will be offered live online from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 14. For a detailed class description and registration information, please see http://www.solinet.net/workshops/ws_details.cfm?doc_id=4339&WKSHPID=12POH. SOLINET classes are open to both members and non-members. Please feel free to forward this email to any colleagues you think may be interested.
