Digital Media & the Library
Been in a record or video store lately? Can you find one that's not a "big-box" store? Digital downloads aren't going away. Over 2.5 billion songs and 2 million movies have been downloaded from Apple iTunes. iTunes is now a top music retailer. Netflix, fusing old (USPS) and new (internet) technology has delivered over 1 billion DVDs. Both Netflix and Amazon.com's unbox service are providing new digital download and rental services. Your local cable company and TiVo are in on this too! And in Library-land we've got OverDrive, NetLibrary, MyLibraryDV, and iTunes U, with more to come!

This half day workshop explores how you, your patrons, and libraries are getting their music, movies, podcasts, audiobooks, videos, games, and more! We'll review the options for consumers and librarians, the current trends, and what the future hold for libraries. Questions and audience participation encouraged!

Your instructor, Scott Kehoe is currently the Technology Trainer / Consultant for the Northeast Massachusetts Regional Library System (NMRLS). Before joining NMRLS in 2000, Scott was the Head of Public Services and a Reference Librarian at the Frances Loeb Library, Graduate School of Design at Harvard University. Scott has a B.A. in Arts and Anthropology from the University of North Carolina and an M.L.S. from Simmons College.
