Google Groups for the Roundtables:

If you're a regular participant in one or more of CLC's roundtables, you
already know how beneficial it is to gather with your colleagues to discuss
topics of mutual interest. But what if you have something pressing to
discuss that can't wait for the next meeting? What if you're rarely able to
leave your library to attend? Connecticut-based listservs exist for a
variety of librarianship's specialties, such as children's librarians, young
adult librarians, school media specialists, and the like, as well as
CONNTECH and CLClist for library staff of all stripes. But for contacting
local colleagues, or colleagues in your specialized area of expertise, we
have nothing but messy home-grown email address books-until now... Using the
elegant (and FREE) wizardry of Google, CLC has set up "Google Groups"
discussion groups for each of our roundtables. Each group has a home on the
web where anyone can view discussion topics and postings.

To contribute to the discussions, or have postings sent to you via email or
RSS, just join the group. It's easy and you don't need a Google (or "gmail")
email address:

. Visit CLC's roundtable page at
www.ctlibrarians.org/events/roundtables.html

. Scroll to your favorite roundtable, and enter your email address into the
appropriate "Google Groups" form

. Follow the link in the confirmation email you receive

. Answer one question: What library do you represent?

. Wait for CLC staff to approve your membership request

. Become a member!

Once you're a member, you can post messages to the group, and see who else
has joined. Start discussions or contribute to them. How you use this tool
is up to you-but it can be a powerful way to network without leaving your
desk.
