The Connecticut State Library Division of Library Development and the CLA ADA committee are sponsoring

Americans with Disabilities Act and Library Buildings workshop

Some topics to be covered are

Exterior issues
   * Accessible parking (size and how many parking spaces)
   * Curb cuts
   * Ramps (width, landings, clear space at top, and slope)

Interior
   * Doors (automatic, width, two doors (space between) and thresholds)
   * Stairways (handrails)
   * Floor surfaces
   * Accessible routes
   * Protruding objects
   * PACs and online catalogs 
   * Magazine displays
   * Book stacks (aisle width)
   * Service counters 
   * Reading areas 
   * Assistive listening systems in meeting rooms 
   * Signage
   * Restrooms 
   * Water fountains
   * Lifts and elevators
   * Safety alarms
   * Text telephone

Our presenter will be: 

Stan Kosloski, Community Facilitator for the University of Connecticut
Center on Disabilities, a division of the UConn Health Center.  He is
also Project Director of the Disability Advocacy Collaborative, a
newly formed statewide network of advocacy organizations that seeks to
enhance the effectiveness of disability advocacy in Connecticut.  He was a
founding member of the Americans with Disabilities Act Coalition of
Connecticut and currently serves as its Treasurer.

3. Find the date of the event and click on the underlined event title

4. Enter the following information: FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, PHONE
NUMBER, EMAIL ADDRESS,  NAME OF YOUR LIBRARY OR ARCHITECTURAL FIRM,
SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS REQUIRED, NOTES (for additional instructions). 
5. Click on COMPLETE REGISTRATION when done. 
First time users will be prompted  to enter an address. Please enter
YOUR LIBRARY OR FIRM ADDRESS.  Once completed you will receive an
event confirmation form.  

CANCELLATION POLICY DUE TO BAD WEATHER: If the public schools in the
town/city that the library is located are closed due to bad weather,
the workshop will be canceled.
