Please Note:  If you are planning to apply for a construction grant this year, you must attend this workshop.  The April 16th and May 20th workshops at Middletown Library Service Center (MLSC) are full.  I still have seats for April 22, 2008 at the MLSC and April 17, 2008 at the Willimantic Library Service Center Computer Training Center.

State Public Library Construction Grant  Workshops 
Mandatory workshop if you are applying for a construction grant

Does your library:
Lack handicapped accessibility?
Need a new building or an addition?
Need to renovate?
Fail to meet building codes?
Need to remodel  (such as new circulation or reference areas)?
Need to do energy conservation measures? (such as new windows or a furnace)?
Consider applying for a State Public Library Construction Grant.   Guidelines and applications for the 2006-07 Grant Program will be distributed at the workshop.

Facts about the construction grants
-Applications are due August 29,2008.
-A construction grant equals one-third of the total cost of a project, not to exceed $1,000,000.
-Total cost of a project must be at least $20,000.
-The  Library Space Planning Guide must be completed for all new, addition, and renovation projects. This workshop will held on March 11, 2008 at the Middletown Library Service Center and repeated on March 19, 2008 at the Willimantic Library Service Center.    
-The 2008-2009 budget for the State Public Library Construction Grant Program for September 2008 is $3.5 million for nondistressed municipalities and $5 million for distressed municipalities.

Your instructor will be Mary Louise Jensen, Building Consultant, Division of Library Development, Connecticut State Library.  Mary Louise provides training and support for library space planning, construction grants, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. She has been at the State Library for over twenty years as the Building Consultant.  Prior to working for Connecticut State Library, she was Director of the Derby Neck Library, Head of Reference at the Stratford Library Association, and worked at academic libraries.

1. Access the Continuing Education Calendar of Events at:  http://evanced.info/cslib/evanced/eventcalendar.asp. 
2. Click on the month of the event at the top of the page.  
3. Find the date of the event and click on the underlined event title to register.
4. Enter the following information: FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, PHONE NUMBER, EMAIL ADDRESS,  NAME OF YOUR LIBRARY OR ARCHITECTURAL FIRM, SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS REQUIRED, NOTES (for additional instructions).

CANCELLATION POLICY DUE TO BAD WEATHER: If the public schools in the town/city that the library is located are closed due to bad weather, the workshop will be canceled.   If the public schools are delayed, the workshop will be held at its scheduled time.
