[Conntech] Integrating Reference Collection with Non-Fiction??Thoughts...

We did this several years ago and are happy with it. Our patrons like it since they see all information on a subject in one place. We allow our circulating reference to go out for one week and our reference to go out overnight - we have very little classified as reference. People often want to use materials at home and unless it's a rare book, the chances of a reference item coming back are the same as a circulating item. We are simply not used as a research library and for the most part, we don't try to act like one.

Subject: [Conntech] Integrating Reference Collection with Non-Fiction??Thoughts...

  Hi,

Are there any public libraries in Connecticut that have shelved their Reference

  Collection among it's Non-Fiction Collection??

If your library has done this, do you like it??

How do your patrons like it???

I know that one downside is that a patron may take over a intershelved reference

book over to the circulation desk to check it out and then learn that it must stay

in the library. Result being a unhappy patron.

We are in the thinking stages of this at the Whittemore Library and want

to hear the pros and cons.

Can anyone lead us to any recently published article(s) on this subject???

  Thanks..

  John W.
