The CONNECTICUT LIBRARY ASSOCIATION's Legislative Committee has learned
that the Appropriations Committee's public hearing on library budget
issues is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 14, in
Room 2C at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. CLA President
Carl Antonucci will testify on CLA's legislative agenda at a time to be
determined by how early we can sign him in.
With the legislative session getting underway today, parking for the
general public is usually restricted to the first level of the LOB
parking garage. More parking space is usually available on nearby
streets. For directions to the LOB and more parking information, go to:
http://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/menu/drivingdirections.asp.
We've also learned that the Governor's budget, which she released today,
includes only one change in any library budget line: a $50,000 reduction
in the Connecticut Library Consortium budget, from $350,000 in FY2008
(this year) to $300,000 in FY2009. InfoAnytime is still funded at
$150,000, and all other lines, including public library construction
funding, remain the same as this year.
Please mark the above date (a week from tomorrow evening) on your
calendar, and plan to attend this hearing if at all possible, as a
strong turnout of library community members (staff, trustees, friends,
and users) in the hearing room will strengthen our case with legislators
not only to restore but to increase the budget for CLC and other
priority items in CLA's current legislative agenda:
