Microsoft Word: Beyond the Basics - March 13th (Darien PL)
Now that you know how to type, select and format text, you're ready to
move on to more sophisticated documents. We'll explore the mystery of
tabs, including the popular tab leaders (dotted or solid lines going
across a page). We'll also find out how to insert, format and add
formulas to tables. We'll explore the table toolbar and investigate some
of its powerful features. Lastly, we'll have some fun inserting graphics
and borders into your document.
Generation 4.0 - The New Age of the Library Workforce - March 17th
(Middletown LSC)
In this workshop we will explore the four generations (Traditionalists,
Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y) that are currently working in
our libraries (and utilizing our services!). From Traditionalists to
Generation Y, we will examine the challenges and benefits of a
multi-generational workforce - who we are, what we want out of a job,
and why we don't always understand each other. We'll also examine our
own assumptions, learn that generations may not be based solely on
dates, and explore ways to work better together.
Redesigning Newsletters in Microsoft Publisher - March 18th (Middletown
LSC)
Are you happy with your newsletter? Could it benefit from a fresh
look? In this y workshop, we'll be exploring the elements of good
newsletter design. We will intersperse our discussion of design with
hands-on applications of what we have learned. We will help you
understand the impact of white space, fonts, numbers of columns and
color.
Audio Editing & Podcasting - March 27th (Willimantic LSC)
Are you interested in learning about podcasting and how you might use
it in your library? In this workshop, participants will learn to create
podcasts using free open source software and inexpensive equipment. We
will also explore different formats for podcasting and learn how to
publish our masterpieces. Even if you don't want to podcast, learning to
record and edit audio is handy if you want to create online tutorials,
videos, or record events and programs held in your library.
Blogs and Flickr - March 28th (Bristol PL)
Blogs and flickr …. Is this just a lot of geek speak or are these
resources that we should be exploiting? We will explore how blogs and
flickr can be used in libraries, as an information source and as a
method to distribute information. We will look at some popular blogs
and create our own using wordpress.com. We will also learn how to set up
a flickr account, upload and organize photos and add photos to your
blog.
