Are you looking for ways to invigorate your career? Do you have
ideas about new directions for libraries and librarians?
The New England Library Association is looking for you!
From July 28-August 1, 2008, NELA will sponsor its third intensive
four-day course designed for up-and-coming library leaders. NELLS -
the New England Library Leadership Symposium - will bring together 26
students (library professionals, paraprofessionals, or volunteers -
including Friends and Trustees - with 3-10 years of library
experience) from the six New England States for leadership training
with Consultant Maureen Sullivan and a variety of library mentors at
the Rolling Ridge Conference Center in North Andover, MA. The
curriculum will include identifying your leadership style,
communication and negotiating skills, coaching and mentoring skills,
and risk-taking. Attendees will be expected to develop their own
professional action plans and serve on committees for either their
State library association or NELA during the next two years.
The cost per participant is $500, and CT attendees are eligible to
apply for CLA PEG grants to cover expenses. The New England Library
Association and the State associations (including CLA) provide the
balance of funding for the Symposium.
The NELLS application and additional information about the program
are available at www.nelib.org/nells. Interested candidates must
complete the form and return it to me with three letters of reference
by January 25, 2008.
CT has had many successful NELLS participants in the past. Let's
continue the trend. Apply now!!!
