The Connecticut State Library Division of Library Development presents
Library Space Planning Guide Workshops
This workshop will help you calculate new space requirements. By the close of the workshop, you will have a rough square-footage figure for your library's needs. All workshop participants will go home with a computer disk with an Excel version of the spreadsheet. (You do not need to know Excel.) The workshop will take you step-by-step through the Library Space Planning Guide, a State Library Publication. The Guide is geared to public libraries; however, school and academic libraries can also use some of the information.
Note: State Public Library Construction Grant Applicant
If you plan to apply for a construction grant for an addition, renovation, or new construction, you should have completed the Library Space Planning Guide work sections before attending the construction grant workshop on April 16, 2008 or May 20th at Middletown Library Service Center or April 17, 2008, at Willimantic Library Service Center.
For maximum benefit bring these figures with you to the workshop:
- Current book and nonprint holdings
- Annual average of net additions (items added minus items withdrawn) for books and nonprint using data for the last five years for each collection
- Number of current periodical titles displayed now, or estimate the number for the year 2020
- Number of back periodicals stored
Who should attend?
Library personnel, trustees, town officials, consultants, and architects
Your instructor will be Mary Louise Jensen, Building Consultant, Division of Library Development, Connecticut State Library. Mary Louise provides training and support for library space planning, construction grants, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
