The CONNECTICUT LIBRARY ASSOCIATION's Legislative Committee will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, January 29, at 2:00 PM, at the Middletown Library Servce Center in Middletown. For directions go to: http://www.cslib.org/facmlsc.htm. We've appended below the approved minutes of our October 23, 2007 meeting. We'll distribute the minutes of our December 4, 2007 meeting after they're approved at next week's meeting.
As the start of the new regular legislative session approaches on February 6, we want to thank all of you who have served as CLA legislative links in the past for your vital work in that role. In fact, you've all been doing such a good job that unless we hear otherwise from you, we'll assume you'll be willing to continue serving as links this year. If you haven't served as a link before but would like to become a link this year, please contact either of us for more information. We'll also be in touch with some of you who have changed jobs in the past year and will need to be linked to different legislators this year.
For more information, contact either co-chair of the Legislative Committee:
Mike Moran (Asnuntuck Community College, 170 Elm Street, Enfield 06082; 860-253-3171; mmoran at acc.commnet.edu)

2. Legislative Reception
Mike reported on the schedule for the reception. There will be one large reception on either Wednesday, November 7th, or Wednesday, November 14th, at Capital Community College in Hartford at 4 P.M. Twenty-two legislators have been invited, and we are awaiting their responses. Recognition plaques will be presented to all of the honored legislators.

Mike reported on the draft handout of the agenda distributed at the meeting today. Chris will update the CLC portion of the agenda. Connecticard has new updated numbers as has the Public Library Construction Grants and the iCONN funding request. 4. Protection for Librarians in Connecticut Statutes
Mike received an email from Linda Lerman at Norwalk Community College which alluded to a state statute which provides legal protection to librarians. More research is needed as to her concerns with the state statutes that protect other professionals, e.g., pharmacists, attorneys, and doctors.
